After using it a couple of times, I begin to kind of like it, and I looked more closely at its label on the back of the palette, to find that it is called Sunrise, Sunset. What a suitable name! It is a really gorgeous day-to-night look palette, featuring light flesh tone colours to dark smoky ones. And the colours are all really neutral.
That was how I started pulling this out to use on and off for more than a year. I am now finally able to review this properly. And let's go!
Note: This look was done for FOTD - Hail the Weekend!
Revlon ColourStay 12 Hour Eyeshadow in #20 Sunrise, Sunset.
Available: All Revlon counters. Except, I have not been seeing this in stores. They may have pulled it off the shelves due to poor sale. But I know many of you already bought it back then, and may still be interested in this.
Volume: 4.8 g
Star Properties: Looks freshly applied for up to 12 hours.
Ingredients list: As in photo below.
Packaging
This palette is made of the standard Revlon quality plastic, that is fairly good. Feels a little flimsy, but it does hold up in my travel bag.
It comes with two single-sided sponge-tip applicator, that are of different shapes. One of them is fatter, for shading in the eyelids, and the other is thinner, for more precise application. But I use none of them. And mine has disintegrated, after a year.
I am fine with the long rectangular eyeshadows, although I prefer them to be more square.
Colours
The colours are shown below. From the top, there is a pink champagne, then a pale gold, a red tone purple, and a burgundy.
They also come in the beautiful quilt pattern, that I have since worn out.
Swatches
These are the colours applied on my arm. In this photo, you see the bottom burgundy colour on top of the photo, moving towards the pink champagne at the bottom of the photo.
Quality of the Colours
Pink champagne - This can also be described as salmon flesh tone colour. The colour is incredible because it looks like real skin, but better. It is lightly metallic, fairly pigmented, fairly satin, and blends very well. Champagne normally does not fit my yellow undertone skin at all, but this is an exception. In fact, it compliments my skin so well, it has since taken over theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer as my daily eyelid highlight!
Pale Gold - This is a bit chalky, and has the worst quality in the palette. There is a bit of glitter, and the glitter are slightly chunky. I do not like this as much as the other three colours, but I still use it because it does help the center of my eyes to pop more, and does work well with the pink champagne to create depth on the eye.
Red-tone Purple - This is less pigmented than the Pink Champagne and the Burgundy, so is rather sheer when applied on eyelids. You really need to re-dip many times to get it to show up true-to-pan. Once applied, it has a satin finish.
Burgundy - This has a perfect satin finish, not over the top, but just enough to create the right depth. It is well-pigmented, slightly creamy, and I love it! This has taken over my Burberry eyeshadow in Antique Rose, as an outer-corner shading colour.
I do still think the Burberry has a better quality, but the fact that this Burgundy by Revlon comes packed in a palette with three other nice colours, definitely gives me more incentive to keep using it.
Eye Look
This is how I wear the colours on my eye.
1. Sweep the Pink Champagne all over my mobile lids.
2. Pat the pale gold on the center of my mobile lid, and slightly up into and above the crease (where my hooded lid folds).
3. Apply the Burgundy in the out and inner corner of my mobile lid. For the outer corner, pull the Burgundy out and up above the crease, forming a rounded cat-eye.
4. Line the outer half of my lower lash line with the purple.
This is what it looks like, eyes-closed.
On normal days, I skip the purple completely.
And on some days when I am in a huge rush, I only use the pink champagne. It's a super pretty colour to wear singly, and just perk my face up slightly. Perfect for neutral work-look.
12-hour Wear
True to claim, this lasts a crazy 12 hours and more, even without primer!!!
I have tried this together with my regular eye primers, like Urban Decay, M.A.C Paintpot, etc, but I truly find no need to use primer with this eyeshadow.
Verdict: 4/5.
I definitely enjoy using this palette a lot because it offers a good range of colour that truly, can bring me from Sunrise to Sunset! All I need, to turn my eye look into a night time one, is to use the purple to line my lash line.
The quality is good for the drugstore price I paid.
The compelling reason for me to wear it daily is the 12-hour wear even without primer. This does not disappoints. (Do note that I have dry skin, and I do not have oily eyelids, although my eyelids do get oilier towards the end of the day.)
I do recommend it for people who are on a budget but want a day-to-night, neutral palette, of fairly good quality that really can blend well together.
